"This commission from the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources provided me with the opportunity to explore and research some of Ontario's most spectacular scenery. Portraying the Great Lakes Heritage Coast, a 2900 km stretch of Georgian Bay and Lake Superior (from right to left in the painting), it represents both the above and below water ecosystems as they interrelate. A two week trip including scuba diving with still and video cameras, combined with creating a number of landscape paintings in the field, gave me the necessary reference and inspiration for the piece. A poster was published by the ministry to promote the region, and is now available. Cottage Life Television created a segment for their program about the making of the painting that can be viewed below.
