
"The most common question that I am asked regarding this painting is: what is that in the top right side?
Well, to save answering it again, I will fill you in. It is the underside of an ice fishing hut. Up on lake Simcoe, Ontario, and many other lakes I am sure, the commercial ice huts are made with rectangles cut out of the floor, and a bench on side provides the seating. The two holes are the windows in the hut.
